Flooded Frome?

It seems some years since Frome has been flooded. In these torrential rain storms of January 2014 the town has remained flood free.

In 1969, after years of flooding in the town centre, a flood prevention scheme was put in place. It was a large project at the time and the river had to be diverted for sometime while a system was put in place which stopped the town centre from flooding, and according to our sources hasn't flooded since.

The work was carried out by Bristol River Authority as part of a large scheme to improve the river flow and avert future flooding.

It linked in with other improvements going on at Welshmill in which the river had been straightened and diverted to a new course, involving the construction of a new weir and channel and a new bridge over the river.
