FAMILIES living in the Packsaddle area of Frome are mounting a campaign to stop 107 homes being built on a field near their homes.
The application is to build 43 four-bedroom houses, 32 three-bedroom homes and 32 apartments in an area known locally as Cuckoo Hill and has been submitted by Country Barns and Homes Ltd, of Flintshire.
Nicola Cretney is one of the founders of the Save Cuckoo Hill campaign, and said the field was not in the emerging local plan for development and many residents living in Packsaddle and Spring Gardens opposed the proposals.
She said: "The developer is trying to get the application in quickly before the revised plan is adopted. A group of us residents met last week to decide on the next course of action.
"The main issues are the extra traffic, which is estimated to be in excess of 200 cars, which will have an effect on Grange Road, all the cul-de-sacs that lead from it and Packsaddle Way, the impact the new homes will have on flooding in Spring Gardens, and the wildlife that is abundant is this area would also be affected."
